Lake Powhatan, located in the Pisgah National Forest near Asheville, North Carolina, is a serene 13-acre reservoir created by damming Bent Creek in 1942. The lake is named after Chief Powhatan, the father of Pocahontas, and is located near the Cradle of Forestry, the first forestry school in the United States. The school, which is now a historic site with interpretive exhibits and educational events, was instrumental in founding the United States Forest Service.
