Lake Tapps is a man-made reservoir located in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The history of Lake Tapps dates back to the early 1900s when it was created as part of the construction of the White River Hydroelectric Project by the Washington Water Power Company.

The construction of Lake Tapps began in 1911 with the building of the Dieringer Dam on the White River. The purpose of the dam was to create a reliable source of water for hydroelectric power generation, irrigation, and industrial use in the region. Over the next few years, a series of canals and pipelines were built to divert water from the White River into the newly formed reservoir, which would eventually become Lake Tapps.

By 1911, the reservoir began to fill up, transforming the surrounding landscape into a large freshwater lake. The reservoir was named “Lake Tapps” after the nearby community of Tapps Island. Cascade Water Alliance has since worked to balance the needs of water supply with the preservation of the lake’s recreational values.

Today, Lake Tapps continues to be a popular destination for residents and visitors seeking outdoor recreation and water-based activities. The lake hosts a variety of recreational events and activities throughout the year, including fishing tournaments, boating races, and community celebrations.
