Buntzen Lake is a picturesque 4.8-kilometer-long lake in Anmore, British Columbia, within the Greater Vancouver area. Originally known as Trout Lake and Lake Beautiful, Buntzen Lake was renamed in 1905 to honor Johannes Buntzen. In the early 1900s, the lake played a crucial role in powering Vancouver’s first hydroelectric plant, the Buntzen Powerhouse. Water was diverted from Coquitlam Lake to Buntzen Lake via a tunnel through Eagle Mountain, and from there, it flowed to power generating stations on the Indian Arm.
