Welcome to Kiser Lake

Kiser Lake, tucked away in Ohio’s Champaign County, is a tranquil haven for outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of the great outdoors. Located along Ohio State Route 235, the lake, once known as Mosquito Lake, is roughly 4.2 miles northwest of St. Paris and 34 miles north of Dayton. Surrounded by Kiser Lake State Park and the Kiser Lake Wetlands State Nature Preserve, the reservoir serves as focal point for recreational activities.
Kiser Lake was created in 1840 when a dam was built across Mosquito Creek to support a grist and saw mill in the low, swampy region known as Mosquito Creek Valley. After the mill ceased operations, the dam and lake fell into disrepair. In 1932, John W. Kiser and his family donated several hundred acres to the State of Ohio to restore the lake for recreational use. By 1940, the dam was rebuilt, and Kiser Lake was refilled.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources maintains the lake and provides a variety of activities. With no motorboats allowed, it provides a tranquil environment for fishing, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing. The surrounding state park features hiking trails, picnic areas, and campgrounds, making it an ideal place for a family getaway or a peaceful day in nature.
Kiser Lake is a testament to community spirit and the dedication to preserving natural beauty for public enjoyment. Its serene waters, lush surroundings, and abundant wildlife make it a cherished destination for locals and visitors alike.
