For the Mnong people living nearby, the lake is very important since it provides a key source of income. There are 43 species of reptiles and amphibians, 61 species of mammals, 132 species of birds, and 548 species of plants in its biodiversity. The legend of Lak Lake tells a tale of sacrifice and redemption, where a young man embarked on a journey to find water for his people, leading to the discovery of the lake.

The lake experiences two seasons: the rainy season (May – October) and the dry season (November – April). The ideal time to visit is from September to December when the lake brims with water and in May when blooming white lotus flowers adorn the lake.
