Welcome to Lake Aeroflex

The jewel in the crown of Kittatinny Valley State Park is Lake Aeroflex, situated in the Skylands section of New Jersey. The deepest natural lake in New Jersey is also known as New Wawayanda Lake. It is one of only two lakes in the state that the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife has stocked with landlocked salmon due to its distinctive feature, which makes it an exceptional fishery. The 103-acre lake is known for its exceptionally pure waters that draw tourists back time and time again to enjoy its peaceful beauty.
Lake Aeroflex was formed by glacial action and has a small water control dam at its outlet. Despite its proximity to Route 206 and Interstate 80, the lake’s heavily wooded shoreline and still waters give it a remote, tranquil feel. The fall season here is particularly stunning, with the surrounding hardwood forests displaying vibrant autumn colors against white limestone cliffs.
A popular destination for paddle sports, with meet-ups and excursions frequently held. A small boat launch accommodates electric and trolling motors, and anglers often use kayaks to reach deeper waters. Stocked annually with landlocked salmon, rainbow trout, and brown trout, the lake also supports bluegill, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and various panfish. Fishing requires a New Jersey license and a trout stamp, with special regulations in place.
At Kittatinny Valley State Park, adventure awaits with various recreational activities. In addition to Lake Aeroflex, the park features three other lakes: Gardner’s Pond, Twin Lakes, and White’s Pond. These lakes are popular for canoeing, kayaking, and wildlife viewing, with abundant bird species and wildlife. The park also offers extensive hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing trails, including the Paulinskill Valley Trail and the Sussex Branch Trail, both following abandoned railroad routes.
Lake Aeroflex is an ideal getaway for outdoor enthusiasts seeking peace and natural beauty, conveniently situated only 55 miles west of New York City. Although there are no campgrounds at Lake Aeroflex, nearby facilities and state parks offer camping options. The surrounding area provides various accommodations, from motels to guest cottages, ensuring visitors have plenty of choices.
