Welcome to Spectacle Lake

Spectacle Lake, nestled in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Vilas County, Wisconsin, is a serene and picturesque retreat. This immaculate lake, which covers more than 400 acres, is a sanctuary for outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of the great outdoors. The dense woodland that envelops the lake creates a tranquil, quiet ambiance perfect for a leisurely retreat. The lake’s clear blue waters and diverse range of wildlife make it a popular spot for swimming, kayaking, fishing, and wildlife observation. Visitors can also enjoy more adventurous activities such as waterskiing, tubing, sailing, and pontooning during the day, with no-wake limits in place after five o’clock to ensure a tranquil evening. There are 33 campsites available in the national forest campground on the lake’s northern bay. Every campground features a hand pump for drinking water, a grill, vault toilets, and a picnic table. A sandy beach and a fishing pier add to the campground’s appeal, making it a perfect spot for families and nature enthusiasts.
Spectacle Lake’s two basins, connected by a narrow channel, resemble a pair of spectacles, adding to its charm. The area is rich in wildlife, with loons, songbirds, and waterfowl frequently seen around the lake. A 2.5-mile hiking trail connects the Spectacle Lake Campground to the campground at nearby Kentuck Lake, offering additional opportunities for exploration. The lake is also a great base for discovering the surrounding wilderness areas and natural sites such as Beaver Creek State Natural Area and Blackjack Springs Wilderness. In winter, the area transforms into a playground for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
